The Rosso family & local history

I am a true local, my family on both sides has lived in Hvar for over 400 years. On my mother’s side the family lived in a small village on an island outside of Hvar. They were fishermen and peasants, rising early to turn the soil before the dew disappeared with the sunrise, as rain in the summer was rare. And then continued in the early morning to take up the nets. They lived of their own fish and vegetables, selling what they could spare and producing their own wine and olive oil. The rowed all the way to Hvar, and sometimes even Split, to sell their fish.

On my father’s side, I am the third generation of carpenters. My grandfather built boats out of wood and still today my father and I work side by side in the family workshop, mainly in the offseason.

The family is at the centre of my world, we are three generations living under the same roof and working together. My father is over 85 years old and still working and my son Josip joins me on the boat when possible. My wife and daughter also work making tourist welcome at Hvar during summer season.

When you book at trip with me, you get an experienced captain and a local guide who can help you discover the islands, the sea, the food and the culture.
